SLC: October 20th, Memorial and Solidarity Vigil

ATTN: SARAH LAWRENCE STUDENTS

We at RE/VISIONIST are glad to see this kind of solidarity on National Coming Out Day. Please pass it on.

Good Afternoon All!

I’ve met with Rabbi Mike Rothbaum of Hillels of Westchester to start planning a Memorial and Solidarity Vigil for the six young people that have committed suicide in the past month as a result of homophobia and bullying.

The Memorial and Solidarity Vigil will be held on Wednesday, October 20th from 4:00-6:00 p.m. (on either North or South Lawn-both are on hold).  Also, October 20th has also been named Spirit Day-asking people to wear purple in memory of the six  and too many others that have committed suicide due to the homophobic abuse/hate/bullying that they have endured.

We are looking for your help as student, staff, and faculty leaders to help with this Memorial and Solidarity Vigil.  If you are interested in participating (speaking, playing music, saying a prayer, passing out ribbons, passing out information, etc.) please let us know.

We would like to meet with you to plan the vigil.  Please let me know via email as soon as possible if you are able to meet tomorrow, Tuesday, October 12 from 11:00am-12:30pm or Wednesday, October 13 from 3:30-5:00 p.m. in the Student Affairs Conference Room.

Thank you in advance for your time and your help.  I am personally saddened by the loss of these young lives and want to stand up and speak out against the hate that they and countless others endure on a daily basis.
